Recently I’ve been studying Human Design. There are lots of personality ‘explorations’ around, and I particularly love these Human Design ones because they really help you understand that you are the way you are for a reason. There may be some things about yourself you are frustrated with…things that other people get and you just don’t…why you are a certain way and others aren’t, and maybe you wonder why you can’t be more like other people. However, when you do these personality profiles, you realise that the way you are is written in the stars and you are the way you are for a reason.
I did a Human Design profile and it told me I was a Manifester, which means that I am a creator, I start things, and help other people get things going. I’m a Jack-of-all-trades (which is actually a positive thing because I can turn my hand to many things) and this helps me start things because I have a very broad range of skills due to just wanting to dig in and learn. I was amazed at how many of the Manifester characteristics were exactly me, and reading all of these things that were ‘me’ made it easier to accept myself a little bit more. I realised that although I’m a starter, I’m not here to be the ‘finisher’; that’s just not what I am, so it’s ok for me to not finish things because that’s just me.
Now I feel like instead of worrying about not finishing things, I can play to my strengths and be the person to start things and motivate others to start things, because I know that’s who I am. These personal profiles do really help you to understand who you are, and I’m on a journey of understanding what it is to be human, and particularly what it is to be me, because we’re all so different. Human Design designates you with one of five types of personality – Manifester, Manifesting Generator, Generator, Projector and Reflectors. Each type has their own set of skills, and they all need each other in order to progress. As a Manifester, I help the other profiles kick into action. Reflectors help give us insight into ourselves. A Generator will take ideas, finish them and make them happen. We’ve all got our own roles and when we play to our strengths, we allow others to play to their strengths too…and then the magic can happen. But all the while we’re ignoring this and concentrating instead on why we’re no good at a particular thing, we’re keeping ourselves small, because we’re beating ourselves up for who we are…which is crazy. What we should be doing is embracing and celebrating who we are, and allowing others to see that so we can all work together. I need to accept who I am, because if I don’t fulfill my role helping others initiate their dreams, they can’t go on to fulfill their roles.
Human Design is really worth looking into, as it’s an incredibly interesting subject, and can definitely give some insight into why you are the way you are.
